Eight Land Use Leaders Appointed To National Advisory Board for ULI Daniel Rose Center for Public Leadership In Land Use
WASHINGTON (December 22, 2011) – Eight land use leaders have joined the national advisory board for the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Daniel Rose Center for Public Leadership in Land Use. The center, established in 2008 with a $5 million endowment from real estate industry legend Daniel Rose, seeks to empower leaders in the public sector to envision, build and sustain successful 21st century communities by providing access to information, best practices, peer networks and other resources to foster creative, efficient and sustainable land use practices.
The new board members are: ULI Trustee Rick Dishnica, president, The Dishnica Company, LLC, Point Richmond, Calif.; ULI Trustee Theresa Frankiewicz, vice president of community development, Crown Community Development, Naperville, Ill.; Antonio Fiol-SiIva, principal, Wallace Roberts and Todd, LLC, Philadelphia; Abby Hall, policy analyst, Office of Sustainable Communities, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington; Con Howe, managing director, CityView Los Angeles Fund, Los Angeles; Barbara Sporlein, deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, St. Paul, Minn.; Roger Williams, principal, RW and Associates, LLC, Potomac, Md.; and former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, senior partner, Lydecker/Diaz, Miami.
The ULI/Daniel Rose Center offers several programs and activities: 1) the Daniel Rose Fellowship program; 2) workshops for public officials on sustainable development; and 3) public-private forums on key land use issues. The fellowship program, which serves as the flagship program of the center, provides city leaders with the information, insights, peer-to-peer learning, best practices and experience they need to successfully build and sustain their cities.
Through the fellowship program, high-level agency officials from a small group of select cities are brought together with top experts and development industry leaders to learn about real estate development and finance, land use concepts and best practices. These city leaders are able to draw upon the knowledge and expertise of the experts and industry leaders to solve actual problems faced by their cities. Each fellowship, which lasts twelve months starting in October of each year, provides the highest quality learning experience for those who receive it. New advisory board member Sporlein was in the 2009 -2010 class of Rose Center Fellows.
The new ULI Rose Center advisory board members join existing board members Alexander Garvin, president and chief executive officer, AGA Public Realm Strategists, New York City; former Orlando, Fla. Mayor Glenda Hood, president, Hood Partners, LLC, Orlando; former Indianapolis Mayor William Hudnut, managing partner, Bill Hudnut Consultants, LLC, Chevy Chase, Md.; ULI Trustee Greg Johnson, president, Wright Runstad and Company, Seattle; former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy, ULI Senior Resident Fellow for Urban Development; and ULI Chief Executive Officer Patrick Phillips (ex-officio member).
