Maura Black Sullivan currently serves the City of Memphis as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer. In this role she serves as a member of the Mayor’s executive team and works to coordinate operations of all divisions of Memphis city government, with over 6,000 employees and an annual operating budget in excess of $600 million.
Sullivan has worked in government in the Memphis community throughout her career, serving as Deputy Director of Planning and Development for Memphis and Shelby County, as Assistant Superintendent of Planning and Student Services for Shelby County Schools, as a special assistant for the Honorable Harold E. Ford, Jr, Member of Congress and as a family court mediator for the Shelby County Juvenile Court.
While at the Division of Planning and Development, Sullivan was part of a team that developed and wrote “Sustainable Shelby” a land use and sustainability plan for Memphis and Shelby County. Sullivan has undergraduate and graduate degrees in public administration and international relations from the University of Memphis and attended law school there as well.
